How we’ve helped

Our fundraising aims to give grants to local groups and organisations that will help to improve the Sefton community or help those that live in the borough. Through our fundraising efforts, we have helped local groups to offer more services, buy new equipment and improve the spaces they use.

We use our funds and resources to help give a local response to major global events such as the Covid 19 pandemic, the Afghan resettlement scheme and Ukrainian refugees.

Local groups and organisations we have helped

Sefton has a vibrant ecosystem of groups, and voluntary and faith organisations. However, to be able to keep doing what they are doing they need to find funding. This is where our grant initiative comes in, through our fundraising efforts we can offer small grants to groups and organisations across the borough. Here is just a selection of who we’ve helped:

  • Formby Befriending – we helped them with their dementia befriending project
  • The Swan Centre – our grant enabled them to put on a creative writing course for their clients
  • Compassion Acts – our grants contributed to their much-needed welfare and benefits advice service
  • Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association  – for older people’s exercise sessions
  • Kindfulness Coffee Club – for a photography course and exhibition

Local response to global events

The past few years have seen major global events impact every one of us. As each one has emerged, we have fundraised and offered grants to organisations helping operations on the ground.

Covid 19 pandemic

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we gave PPE to several Sefton organisations, whose work needed, in some capacity, to carry on despite the lockdown. These organisations are not part of the NHS, so were not a priority for PPE, and by themselves, may not have had easy access to quality PPE. Using our connections as part of Sefton CVS, we managed to secure PPE for serval organisations across the borough.

Afghan resettlement scheme

Together with Sefton CVS and Sefton Council, we accepted donations of goods for the Afghan Resettlement scheme in 2021. We then created hampers to give to Afghans who had come to settle in Sefton; these hampers included toiletries, toys, clothes and non-perishable food. The generosity of the people of Sefton was amazing! We had so many donations we had to stop accepting goods.

Ukraine War

When the Russia-Ukraine war started to intensify, Sefton 4 Good started fundraising so we could offer grants to organisations working with the newly arrived refugees. The funds from our Ukraine appeal went to help the Ukraine Welcome Centre at Blundellsands Methodist Church.

Jubilee and coronation funds

Sefton 4 Good match funded Sefton CVS’ Jubilee and Coronation funds: grants programmes enabling local voluntary, community and faith (VCF) groups to participate and deliver social and community activities in recognition of the late Queen’s Jubilee and Coronation of His Majesty The King.
