Volunteer Centre Sefton and Sefton 4 Good recently hosted a rewarding Volunteer Taster Day at the beautiful Rimrose Valley Country Park in Bootle. We were delighted to welcome nine volunteers from Imperial Brands, two graduates, and another young man, who joined forces to help protect and enhance this vital local green space.
A morning of community action
The event, led by the dedicated team at Rimrose Valley Friends in conjunction withVolunteer Centre Sefton and Sefton 4 Good, gave participants the opportunity to get hands-on with practical conservation work.
The volunteers split into two teams to tackle key tasks across the park:
- One group carried out litter picking along the canal and running track, helping to keep these well-used routes clean and safe.
- The other group focused on clearing invasive and encroaching vegetation at the Field Lane entrance, improving access for park users.
In just three hours, the group achieved a huge amount, and their hard work made an immediate and visible difference to the park.

Rimrose Valley is a much-loved green corridor in Sefton, linking the communities of Bootle, Netherton, Litherland and Waterloo. The park stretches for around 3.5 kilometres (2 miles) and covers a rich mosaic of habitats including grassland, woodland, and wetland. It’s a vital refuge for local wildlife, home to a variety of birds, butterflies, insects, and small mammals and it’s also an important community space for walkers, cyclists, runners, and families.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who joined us for this Volunteer Taster Day. Your enthusiasm and commitment helps to keep Rimrose Valley a safe, clean, and thriving place for both people and wildlife.” Said event organiser Catrin Hughes.
