To celebrate the borough of Sefton turning 50, this year we have partnered with local charitable organisations to offer one day volunteering taster sessions. On Tuesday 8th October we joined Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens at Adelaide Garden with a fantastic team of volunteers.

Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens (FOWSG) is run entirely by volunteers and looks after four distinctive public gardens along the seafront: Marine Garden, Crescent Garden, Adelaide Garden and Beach Lawn. They also look after Potter’s Barn park. The group works hard to ensure the areas are kept in a beautiful condition for the benefit of the local community.

Throughout the day, 10 volunteers from Sefton 4 Good and 5 volunteers from FOWSG transformed an area of Adelaide Garden: removing weeds and grass from the paving stones; cutting back and pulling out overgrown bracken and ivy; litter picking among the flower beds and carrying bags of vegetation to the Green Sefton van for disposal.

Volunteers from the general public along with employees from Balfour Beatty and WSP joined in the session from 10am-3pm to give the area a much needed lift.

FOWSG meet four times a month and anyone is welcome to attend. You can just turn up or you can contact them before hand. Head to their website or Facebook page for details of which area they are working on.
