Citizens 4 Good is a joint initiative from Sefton Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and the Mayor of Sefton’s Office and recognises local people for good deeds, kindness and support that they provide to other members of the community.
For the first time Citizens 4 Good has held an event in Maghull, in partnership with Maghull Town Council.
Now in its 3rd year, this round of Citizens 4 Good particularly focused on people local to Maghull, Lydiate and neighbouring areas.
The 14 residents honoured at the Maghull Town Hall event ranged from a man who continues to volunteer for a local charity at the age of 92, to a woman who has helped to establish one of the Southport foodbanks.
Councillor Burns said she was delighted to attend the event and to hear the many examples of the excellent work that people are doing in their local communities.
She commented: “So much good takes place in Sefton and we want Citizens 4 Good to shine a spotlight on those people making a difference to life in their area. I’m particularly happy to bring the event to Maghull, my local community. ”
Mike Howlett, Sefton CVS Volunteer and Citizenship Lead, said: “Everyone who has been recognised here tonight has made a really positive impact on their local community, and inspired someone enough to nominate them.”
Attendees at the event included a local school boy who has helped to establish Bootle Junior parkrun, a road safety campaigner, a member of Maghull Homewatch who has raised £1.400 for local good causes, and 4 Girlguiding volunteers who, between them, have been volunteering for a total of 160 years!
