Nominations are now being accepted for a major scheme that recognises Sefton residents who make a positive difference to life in their local communities.
Sefton 4 Good and the Mayor of Sefton’s Office are seeking entries for the latest round of their Citizens 4 Good initiative.
Citizens 4 Good is a recognition scheme that aims to highlight the good deeds, kindness and support that local people provide to other members of their community.
And with 2019 having been designated Sefton’s Year of Friendship, organisers are particularly keen to encourage people to nominate residents who have been outstanding friends and neighbours.
June’s Citizens 4 Good event saw people recognised for a variety of reasons:
- Kevin Dunne founded Stem Cell Scousers, a group which raises awareness of, and funds for, blood cancer charities. He has raised over over £50,000 for local and national charities.
- Cath Barry, Joan Miller and Vera McGee all volunteer for Girlguding Sefton, with over 70 years of service between them.
- Margaret Walton is a member of Maghull Station Volunteers who not only supports and growing and planting of plants that decorate the station, but has also created artwork which adorns several of its walls.
- Sharon Gregory-Waring, the Community Champion of ASDA Southport, who plays a large role in the Lord Street in Bloom project.
Mike Howlett, Senior Citizenship and Volunteering Officer for Sefton CVS, commented: “Over the last two years the Citizens 4 Good scheme has gone from strength to strength. Whether people are volunteering in their local community or look out for an elderly neighbour, or has helped a friend at a time of crisis, we really want to recognise the difference they make.
“The quality of the nominations has been very high, and we’re expecting more of the same with the latest round of the scheme.”
Shortlisted nominees will be invited to a celebration event where they will be presented with a certificate by the Mayor of Sefton, Cllr June Burns.
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday 4th October, with the celebration event taking place on Thursday 17th October at Bootle Town Hall.
